Subgrid modeling of the filtered equation of state with application to real-fluid turbulent mixing at supercritical pressures

Simulation of turbulent mixing and combustion at supercritical pressures requires the use a real-fluid equation state (EOS) to represent nonideal, nonlinear thermodynamic behavior fluids under these conditions. The simplified representation filtered EOS in large eddy simulation methodology introduces inconsistencies computed state. This study investigates novel subgrid modeling approaches address issues, using high-resolution direct numerical transcritical layer. Errors incurred by not accounting for effects are quantified, fundamental insights drawn regarding nature effects. Then, different proposed investigated obtain more accurate EOS. evaluation terms Reynolds-filtered variables is considered instead conventional Favre-filtered variables. A dynamic gradient model formulated building upon ideas render functional form expressed resolved flow gradients. scale-similarity formulation also constructed examined.
